Water Purification

Water purification and Reverse Osmosis Systems

Chlorine and chloramine are added to drinking water by water companies to ensure that tap water is safe to drink but in the same process it makes tap water unsuitable for Koi and other aquatic life.

Chlorine and Chloramine is highly toxic to Koi and other aquatic creatures and can damage their delicate gills and skin leaving them chemically burned, stressed and more susceptible to disease and infections and in many cases can cause fish fatalities.

A dechlorinator is an essential piece of pond equipment for any Koi enthusiast or pond keeper and will neutralise the chlorine or chloramine present in the water making it safe for your pond.

Dechlorinators should be used when filling a pond for the first time as well as when carrying out water changes helping ensure your fish are kept in perfect health.

water purification

Tap water varies in its composition dramatically through out the world depending upon the region you are located. Some areas have hard water. Others have soft water. Some water is full of metal toxins and other water is full of phosphate helping the growth of blanket weed.

For some pond enthusiasts it simply isn’t enough to remove chlorine and chloramine and desire to create the best, most pure water possible for their Koi and other aquatic pets.

At Utopia Koi we understand the importance of water quality and have over many years tried and tested most types of water purification to create a range of products we are confident will perform the job in hand with ease enabling the most ardent Koi enthusiast the ability to provide their Koi the ultimate in water quality without compromise.

Throughout our state of art facilities we use reverse osmosis purifiers daily along with a range of other water purifiers ensuring that our knowledge and understanding is second to none. We are happy to tailor water purifiers to meet specific needs and requirements.

    Reasonable Expectations

Unlike many other companies we pride our selves on accurate advise.

Useful Fact: Unless your input water is heated to 24 °C, pumped with a pressure of at least 75 psi and other as a base set of water input parameters you will not attain the manufactures maximum water out put figures.

Most UK water is delivered at a temperature around 12 °C, with a water pressure of around 40 – 45 psi, you will approximately achieve 1 litres per minute (approximately 60 litres hour) equal to 1440 litres per day.

If you increase your pressure, you can expect a higher output. We assemble and install many systems every year and have over many years of using reverse osmosis systems gained a wealth of experience.

If you are going to pump your water, please ensure that your pump has sufficient water flow and sufficient pressure. Beware there are many “water-movers” low wattage, low pressure high volume pumps. You need a pump that will provide around 5 litres per minute at a pressure of over 80 psi constantly to achieve high flow rates of reverse osmosis product water.

At Utopia Koi we have used a 4040 reverse osmosis systems on our ponds for several years with great success achieving well over 1000 UK gallons per day.

  • PTFE Tape

    £1.49

PTFE tape also called plumbers tape or thread seal tape is used for sealing your threaded pipe joints.

How much PTFE tape to use:

To create a good seal wrap the PTFE tape around the components several times to create a better seal.

    • Always clean the thread pipes before beginning to apply your tape.
    • Wrap the tape in the direction of the threaded spiral of the male thread, always beginning with the first thread. (Wrapping the wrong way may result in it coming unwound as you tighten the fitting).
    • Do not overhang the tape.
    • Keep the edge of the tape parallel to the face of the fitting and wrap all the threads.
    • When you have wrapped enough tape around, cut off any unrequited excess PTFE tape.
    • Press the PTFE tape firmly to ensure the tape lies flat
    • Tighten connection and check for any leaks. If a leak is detected loosen connection and add additional PTFE tape and re tighten until the connection is leak fee.
