What are sieve filters?

Sieve filters are mechanical filters designed to remove solids from pond water. This performs two functions.

Firstly, solid pollutants such as fish waste and algae are removed from the water improving water clarity.

Secondly, because solid fish waste pollutants are removed from the water prior to it breaking down creating substances such as ammonia and nitrite this reduces the load on your chosen biological filter

Sieve filters generally sieve solids out of the water down to around 300 microns. They are very compact in size making installation easier and are low maintenance.

Sieve filters are a superb cost effective pre filter for a biological filter such as a bead filter.

  • Aqua Forte Pump Fed Sieve

    The compact Sieve is a pump fed System that returns water back to the pond under gravity.

    The sieve can be used as a mechanical filter or is excellent if used with a pond skimmer.

  • Aqua Forte Smart Sieve

    The Aqua Forte Smart Sieve is produced via rotation moulding. This innovation in production allows the filter to be produced quickly and efficiently whilst giving the filter added strength and a nice clean look.

    The Smart Sieve is manufactured from polypropylene and supplied with a 300 micron stainless steel screen.

    The Smart Sieve incorporates a bend in the sieve profile which is made from stainless steel wires with very small slot openings to allow water to pass through whilst trapping the waste solids in the sieve bend which can then be washed to waste via the waste opening located at the bottom of the screen bend.

    To remove the waste that has accumulated on the surface of the screen is very simple process. Simply open the waste outlet and to rinse the waste away with a normal hosepipe.

    This allows for the maintenance and cleaning of the Midi Sieve to be carried out with ease.

    The Smart Sieve has a float system to prevent the water in the area underneath the sieve from rising above the level of the sieve which would prevent it from working correctly.

    The floating device can be easily adjusted to accommodate pumps of different speeds and installation fine tuning.

    The Aqua Forte Ultra Sieve Midi is a smaller version of the successful Ultra Sieve III.

    The Ultra Sieve Midi is a gravity fed mechanical pre-filter designed to remove waste solids from the water via a bottom drain or through a skimmer.

    The Midi Sieve incorporates a bend in the sieve profile which is made from stainless steel wires with very small slot openings to allow water to pass through whilst trapping the waste solids in the sieve bend which can then be washed to waste via the waste opening located at the bottom of the screen bend.

  • Aqua Forte Ultra Sieve III

    The Aqua Forte Ultra Sieve III in our opinion is a superb sieve filter. It is the most compact sieve filter on the market with a maximum flow rate depending on the model selected, up to 6600 gallons per hour making it one of the highest flow rate sieve filters available making it a very versatile mechanical filter.

    Ultra Sieve III explained

    If we keep it simple, there are water inlets, a weir to regulate the water flow from the inlets to the screen. A screen of either 200 microns or 300 microns. A waste collection area and a clean water sump leading to the outlet.

    Pond water flows from the inlets over the top of the weir which auto regulates in height depending on the flow rate. The weir ensures that the correct amount of water pumped out the filter will enter the filter via inlets.
