Bottom Drains

In general it is accepted that bottom drains are highly recommended in a koi pond and should be fitted to all modern day ponds under construction in our opinion.

If you are modifying a pond that currently does not have a bottom drain it may be a good opportunity to add bottom drains to the design we are confident the end results will be worth the work. There are many types of bottom drain available in a range of prices. We have a select range that we believe covers all possible requirements

  • Standard Bottom Drain

    £16.95£19.95

Standard bottom drain supplied complete with the removable dome lid and central pipe which will need cutting to length to create the correct gap under the dome once the pond is built. Ideally a 25 mm gap is recommended between the pond base and the bottom of the dome when installed.

  • Spin Drifter Bottom Drain

    £74.95£144.95

Spindrifter bottom drains are renowned for quality and their excellent design. Spindrifter bottom drains have a second inlet for a 1” Pressure pipe connection in the sump of the drain. This allows the air supply hose to enter the sump independently of the water outlet pipe.

Spindrifter bottom drains are available for concrete ponds or ponds utilising a liner. The liner variation features a recess on the backing plate to prevent the liner from becoming detached. The complete assembly is secured to the Spindrifter bottom drain by means of a stem, which also provides the air inlet.

    Available in:

    • 2” Concrete
    • 3” Concrete
    • 4” Concrete
    • 110mm Concrete
    • 2” Liner
    • 3” Liner
    • 110mm Liner

  • Spindrifter Bottom Drain direct air kit

    £19.95

The Spindrifter direct air kit allows you to create an air reservoir inside the pressure pipe rather than feeding an airline down the air inlet pipe work.  This has a number of advantages but the main one is no water can find its way down the 1 inch Pressure Pipe, which potentially will hold stagnant water and harmful bacteria.

The most noticeable feature of the Spindrifter bottom drain is the extra connection in the sump of the drain. This is where the direct air feed connector glues in place supplying air to the main diffuser stem. This allows the air supply hose to enter the sump independently of the water outlet pipe,

The second part of the Direct Air Feed glues on the end of the 1 inch pressure pipe which typically will be located in the filter house, enabling you to connect to the air pump.

    £19.95

  • Retro Fit Bottom Drain

    £74.95

Aerated retro bottom drain system allows the ability to add a bottom drain to a pond if it was overlooked during the construction of the pond.

The retro bottom rain that sits on the floor of your pond and requires no digging. Simply place the self -weighted portable bottom drain in your pond and attach a pipe from a pump and enjoy all the benefits of a bottom drain with minimal expense.

    £74.95

  • Utopia Koi own specification bottom drains

    £124.95£179.95

Having built many ponds Utopia Koi have looked at the bottom drain and we believe improved it. Our own design bottom drains are constructed from heavy weight PVCU so they are extremely strong and durable.

The aerated bottom drain is superb and integrates two inlets into the sump. One inlet for the water feed to the filtration system and the other for the air feed to the heavy duty aerated dome which is included. Unlike the spindrifter bottom drain our own design bottom drain does not require an airline to be connected to an air nipple on the dome stem. The air reservoir pipe simply glues into the stem which then runs all the way back to your chosen air pump in the fitter room making installation simple and superior.

    Available in:

    • 2”- Concrete
    • 3” – Concrete
    • 4” – Concrete
    • 110mm – Concrete
    • 4” – Dual water Input connections  – Concrete

Pond liner calculator

Use our simple Pond Liner Calculator to estimate the liner and/or underlay size required for your pond.

The result allows for an overlay either side of 30cms. You may wnat to increase or decrease this value depending on your pnd installation.

If you're not sure on what size you need then contact us and we can help.

Measurements are entered in meters. As an example if your pond is 254cm deep at its deepest enter 2.54.
